Bennerley Fields School

Nurture. Support. Aspire. Achieve.

Welcome to Elvaston’s class page! We’re an enthusiastic and vibrant KS3 class of 12 students. The teaching staff are Nathan, Ellis, Sim, and Kirsty .

In our class, we embrace diversity and celebrate all student's unique abilities and talents. We believe that every individual has the potential to thrive and make positive progress at their own pace. We strive to create a warm and nurturing environment where kindness, empathy and respect for one another are at the core of everything we do. Each student's voice is valued, and we encourage active participation knowing that every contribution is significant. We celebrate everyone's achievements and work together as a team to earn class marbles. When our marble jar is full, we can decide as a team what special treat to have, this could be a movie afternoon, a special trip, games day etc. Pupils can also earn class dojo points for individual achievements by demonstrating the Bennerley Attitudes. At the end of the week, we have a student of a week.

In Elvaston class, we foster a love for learning and exploration.  We will be investigating a range of topics this year - our current topic is "1066" and we will be learning all about The Battle of Hastings. Our curriculum incorporates; enrichment activities, recognising and expressing our emotions, keeping safe online, visits out in the community, Forest School and PE. Maths, English, Science and PSHE are our core subjects that focus on developing fundamental skills.

In our class, we are a family – a community that cares for one another, celebrates each other's successes and support each other through setbacks. Together, we aim to inspire, uplift and empower each other to embrace our potential and make a positive impact to the school and wider community.

10.06.2024 To end our topic on 'Heroes and Villains' we had a 'Murder Mystery Day - WHO DUNNIT?'

Trip to The Galleries of Justice Museum in Nottingham: What a fun day we had! A lovely lady called Claire helped us to explore all of the different areas of the museum - including the deep, dark dungeons! Our Elvastonians were super brave! We also went in to the court room and re-enacted a historic sentencing. Everyone had an important role to play, especially Jude who made an excellent and formidable judge!

Trip to The Derby Museum of Making and Art Gallery: We had a great day visiting two different museums in Derby and saw lots of interesting things! At lunch time, we joined Haddon class for a picnic on the grass in the lovely sunshine ☀️

W/C 26/02/24 A Fun Introduction to our New Topic - Tremors! We created a Volcanic ‘eruption’ by mixing water, washing up liquid and baking soda together. It was fun waiting for the chemical reaction to happen! 💥

End of Term Trip to Elvaston Castle! During our Spring 1 topic we were learning about different types of castles so it only seemed fitting to visit our namesake - Elvaston Castle. It was a soggy morning but that didn’t stop us from having lots of fun while we explored the grounds, enjoy a treat from the café and end with a play on the park.

18.01.24 - This term in Beyond Bennerley, our focus has been on banking and understanding money. Recently we visited all the banks and cash machines in Ilkeston Town Centre.

13.12.23 - We loved exploring the National Space Centre. In Science this term we have been learning all about space and our solar system!

28.11.23 - In History we learnt about the Ancient Egyptian mummification process and replicated it with our own sensory mummification stations! It was great fun!

21.11.23 - Elvaston loved learning all about the radio at Erewash Sound as part of "Beyond Bennerley"
