Uniform
At Bennerley Fields we recognise the importance of wearing a school uniform. We believe that our school uniform plays a valuable role in encouraging group identity and being a part of the Bennerley Fields community. We also believe that it helps to prepare our children for future life where many jobs require a uniform to be worn. However, as a special school we are aware that some of our pupils have sensory needs and find certain items of clothing difficult to wear. If this is the case for your child, please contact school to discuss.
The school uniform comprises of:
- Dark grey or black trousers, tracksuit bottoms or skirts
- White polo shirt, white t-shirt or white shirt
- In summer grey or black tailored shorts may be worn. There is also the option of a blue gingham dress
- Royal blue sweatshirt or cardigan (EYFS – KS3)
- Black sweatshirt or cardigan (KS4 only - Rufford and Haddon)
- Black school shoes or trainers
PE Kit
- Dark shorts/ tracksuit bottoms
- Plain white t shirt
- Plain black / navy sweatshirts
- Trainers
Jewellery, hair styles and makeup
From a Health and Safety aspect, all pupils are discouraged from wearing jewellery of any type in school. All pupils are asked to remove jewellery for PE, swimming and at playtime if they are participating in sporting activities. Where pupils are wearing studs they will be offered tape to put over them during sporting activities. If your child does wear jewellery, then this is the parent/carer’s responsibility. Please complete a form from the office if it applies to your child (or may have been completed when your child joined the school).
- Hair colours should be natural (blondes, browns, black, reds).
- Any pupil wishing to have an alternative hairstyle should discuss this with the Headteacher before the haircut takes place to see if this is suitable and permissible in school.
- Any make up should be natural looking and only in secondary. Primary pupils are asked not to wear make up.
Equality and Diversity
- All our pupils are able to wear uniform without the school logo which may be cheaper in supermarkets. We also have pre-loved uniform in school free for families, and welcome donations of your child's uniform if they grow out of it.
- Our uniform is non-gender specific. Pupils are free to wear any item of uniform they wish, regardless of gender.
- Items of religious clothing are welcomed and any specific questions on this can be raised with the Headteacher if necessary.
- Reasonable judgements will be made with regard to protected characteristics (age, disability, sex, race, sexual orientation, gender, religion or belief).
