Rufford

Welcome to Rufford Class

This year will be full of learning, laughter and exciting experiences for everyone. I know that together we can provide our pupils with the knowledge, independence and self-confidence they need to prepare for future experiences.

 

In Rufford, we deliver an exciting, broad and balanced curriculum, which prepares our pupils for transition into post 16 education and subsequently the next part of their lives and adulthood. We support our pupils to become well- rounded young adults who are ready to access further education and to be ready to live healthy fulfilling lives, becoming responsible citizens and make a positive contribution to society.

 

Core Subjects

We teach Functional Skills in Maths and English, these skills support pupils to apply their learning in real life situations ensuring learning is meaningful and relevant to the pupils.

 

Foundation Subjects Science

The Science curriculum is linked to the AQA Units Award scheme. Pupils study units in Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as developing science process skills; observing, inferring, measuring, communicating, classifying and predicting.

 

Culture Studies

The Culture Studies curriculum is linked to AQA Units Award scheme. Designed to extend pupils cultural experiences through combined subjects Humanities, Art, Drama and Forest Schools.

 

Pathway to Adulthood

The Pathway to Adulthood curriculum is linked to the AQA Units award Scheme. It combines key elements of learning and development to prepare pupils for adult life. The topics covered over a two years cycle:

· Finance and banking

· Democracy

· Enterprise

· Meal Preparation

· ICT

 

Careers

Pupils receive weekly careers lessons delivered by an independent adviser, which follow the Gatsby Benchmarks. In these session’s they will be advised about post 16 providers.

 

Important information

PE is on a Monday morning.

Forest School is on a Wednesday afternoon for Spring 1 and 2. 

28.3.25. Today, Rufford visited Denby Pottery for a hands-on "Play with Clay" session. This trip served as the perfect conclusion to our science topic for the term, "Introduction to Everyday Materials."

25.3.25. In our Careers class we visited IKEA to explore the different job opportunities in the store.

21/03/25:- Today, Rufford class had a fantastic learning experience as we visited a local launderette to explore essential independent living skills. The students learned how to properly wash and dry clothes, gaining valuable knowledge that will help them in everyday life. After our trip to the launderette, we returned to school and put those skills into practice by ironing the clothes. It was a great opportunity for everyone to develop confidence in their ability to manage household tasks and take on more responsibility. It was an enriching day full of hands -on learning, and the students were excited to apply their new skills in real-life situations.

14.3.25 Rufford went to Reverse careers fair, the aim is to bridge the gap between young people with SEND and looking and potential employers, fostering meaningful connections and career opportunities.

25.2.25 Today we went to Ilkeston to identify different shops looking at job opportunities in the local area as part of careers curiculum

12.2.25 As part of our RE day we explored architecture in different places of worship.

13.2.25 Pathway to Adulthood: Rufford has been learning how to stay safe online and the importance of not engaging with strangers on the internet.

30/01/25:- in Science Rufford we’re learning about the different states of water. They then used PowerPoint and Word to produce a poster to show how water changes from a solid to a liquid to gas.

24/01/25:- As part of the Pathway to Adulthood lessons Rufford continued to prepare healthy meals on a budget. This week they made chicken fajitas which was enjoyed by all!

16/01/25:- Rufford enjoyed learning about different states of matter. They used good science skills to carry out an experiment to produce Carbon Dioxide gas.

12/11/24:- As part of their work experience Rufford class developed skills to change the breakfast tables over ready for the evening meal at Breadsall Priory.

22/10/24:- As part of careers lessons Rufford worked on developing their teamwork and problem solving skills by completing different challenge tasks.

11/10/24- Today as part of Hello Yellow day Rufford class had a nice walk around Victoria Park followed by a delicious hot chocolate.

04/10/24:- As part of our Beyond Bennerley lessons Rufford class are researching different hobbies. Today we visited Decathlon and the children had fun trying out different activities.

02/10/24 :- Rufford class visited the Enterprise Centre in Derby as part of their careers lessons to look at different post 16 options.

20/9/24:- Rufford started off the new school year with a brilliant educational trip to Twycross zoo. They looked at the different habitats which supported their learning in Science lessons.
