Pupil Progress

At Bennerley Fields School our early learners working below subject specific learning, are assessed on our bespoke BF Engagement Framework that tracks progress in 5 key areas: the Engagement Model, Communication, Social and Emotional, Motor Skills and Sensory.

When pupils start learning at a subject specific level, we assess each pupil's progress towards our curriculum outcomes and qualifications in small steps through our BF Progress Steps framework, and outcomes booklets for foundation subjects.

We set targets on our school assessment system based on pupil need, and report progress termly to parents/carers about whether they have met their targets. Pupils who do not meet a target have interventions to boost progress.

In July 2026 our Headline Data was very positive with at least 93% of our pupils meeting their end of term data in 9 out of 10 subjects. 

Qualifications

In KS4 our pupils work towards qualifications based on their academic ability. These include Function Skills Maths (Entry Level and Level 1), Entry Level Certificate in English, and a range of AQA Unit Awards (at Pre Entry Level and Entry Level). We aim to maintain a broad and balanced curriculum while achieving appropriate accreditation, in order to provide our pupils the building blocks for their next steps in Post 16 education.

Supporting every pupil to take their next step

At Bennerley Fields School, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil is supported to move on to a positive and sustainable destination when they leave us.

We recognise that every young person is different. Our approach to post-16 planning therefore considers each pupil's individual strengths, needs, interests, aspirations and EHCP outcomes, alongside the support they may need to make a successful transition.

Our 2025–2026 outcomes

100% of our Year 11 leavers progressed into post-16 education or an appropriate alternative package.

We are particularly proud that:

• All Year 11 pupils progressed to a suitable post-16 destination or alternative package.
• No pupils have become NEET (not in education, employment or training) over the last three years.
• All pupils sustained their post-16 placements, confirmed through our annual Keeping in Touch checks.
• The majority of pupils secured their first-choice destination.
• Where a first-choice placement was not available, we worked closely with families, Derbyshire SEND and local providers to identify appropriate alternatives.

• Our 2026 leavers progressed to a range of destinations, including sixth form, college and home education.

How do we support pupils and families?

Planning for the next stage does not begin in Year 11. We encourage pupils and families to start exploring their options from Year 9, giving them plenty of time to visit settings, meet providers and consider what will work best for them.

Our support includes:

Early planning
We begin conversations about post-16 options early, helping pupils and families to explore possibilities without feeling rushed.

Personalised guidance
We work with each pupil and their family to identify destinations that reflect their individual abilities, interests, aspirations and support needs.

Visits and experiences
Pupils and families are supported to visit post-16 settings and experience different environments before making decisions.

Post-16 Fair
Our annual in-school Post-16 Fair gives families the opportunity to meet a range of providers in one accessible setting. Feedback from pupils, families and providers has been consistently positive.

Family support
Our Family Support Team provides additional help where families may experience barriers or uncertainty around transition.

Working with providers
We have strong relationships with local colleges, sixth forms, alternative providers and Derbyshire SEND. This helps us to find creative solutions when a traditional pathway may not meet an individual pupil's needs.

Keeping in Touch
Our support does not stop when a pupil leaves Bennerley Fields. We make annual Keeping in Touch calls to find out how pupils are progressing and whether their placement continues to meet their needs.

Our aim is simple: to ensure every pupil leaves Bennerley Fields with a positive next step that is right for them and gives them the opportunity to continue developing their skills, independence and aspirations.
