Bereavement

Bereavement and loss affect people differently; there is no right or wrong way to feel. It may include the loss of a love one after a long illness, suddenly or unexpected and may include the grieving of the loss of a pet.

School Support

School is able to offer support through:

  • Social stories
  • Bespoke 1:1 sessions
  • Referral to the FASST Team for 1:1 HOPE session (Helping Our Pupils Emotions).
  • Referral for THRIVE support.
  • Consultation with bereavement specialists for advice and support.
  • Referral to bereavement specialists.

School have access to a range of resources. These include books and activities around bereavement. This support is delivered by the pastoral team, Thrive Practitioners or members of the FASST Team.

Bereavement Support for Families

Cruse Bereavement and Treetops offer support for families.

Grief affects us emotionally, physically and can affect our mental health. Learning more about the grieving process can help you understand what you're going through.

Bereavement support for Young People

Child Bereavement UK and Winston's Wish are able to support young people to understand their feelings, process their grief and find ways to move forward with hope for a brighter future.

  • Child Bereavement uk Child Bereavement UK helps families to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies. We support children and young people (up to the age of 25) when someone important to them has died or is not expected to live.
  • Winston's Wish Winston's Wish is a charity that helps children, teenagers and young adults (up to the age of 25) find their feet when their worlds are turned upside down by grief.

Non-Talking Therapy for Young People: The Mollitiam Project

Our Non-Talking Therapy programme - the Mollitiam Project - offers 8 weeks of group therapy for young people (11-17yrs) who have been significantly affected by the traumatic bereavement of a parent, carer or sibling. Their bereavement may have occurred at any time in the past.

The Therapy is available to young people who are registered with a GP practice in Derby city or the southern Derbyshire area, or who have used our services.

The Therapy includes a programme of 8 weekly sessions which are held at the hospice, on a Thursday, 5.30-7.30pm.

  • Grief support for loss of pet We at Rainbow Bridge take the death of a pet very seriously. You are not alone with your grief. You will share a bond with those who have also lost a loved pet.
