In Sherwood Class, we aim to equip pupils with the essential skills they need to become independent learners and to develop the confidence and abilities required for a successful transition into their next educational setting and beyond.
We deliver an engaging, broad, and balanced curriculum that prepares pupils for post-16 education and supports them as they move towards adulthood. Our curriculum encourages pupils to become well-rounded young adults who are ready to access further education, live healthy and fulfilling lives, become responsible citizens, and make a positive contribution to their communities.
Core Subjects - We teach Functional Skills in English and Mathematics, enabling pupils to develop practical literacy and numeracy skills that can be applied confidently in everyday situations. Learning is designed to be meaningful, relevant, and accessible, supporting pupils to achieve greater independence.
Pathway to Adulthood - Our Pathway to Adulthood curriculum is delivered through the AQA Unit Award Scheme and combines key aspects of personal development, independence, and practical life skills to prepare pupils for adulthood. Delivered on a two-year cycle, the programme enables pupils to revisit and build upon essential knowledge and skills, supporting them to become confident, independent young adults. Key areas of learning include finance and banking, democracy and citizenship, enterprise, meal preparation, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), ensuring pupils develop the practical skills and understanding needed for everyday life and future success.
Culture Studies - The Culture Studies curriculum is also linked to the AQA Unit Award Scheme. It broadens pupils' cultural understanding through an integrated programme of Humanities, Art, Drama, and Forest School activities, providing opportunities to explore creativity, history, the wider world, and the natural environment.
Science - Our Science curriculum follows the AQA Unit Award Scheme. Pupils study a range of units across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics while developing essential scientific enquiry skills, including observing, measuring, predicting, communicating, classifying, and drawing conclusions from evidence.
Careers Education - Pupils receive weekly careers lessons. These sessions are structured around the Gatsby Benchmarks and provide guidance on post-16 education, training opportunities, and future career pathways, helping pupils make informed decisions about their next steps.

PE: Monday Afternoon
It has been a fantastic start to the year in Sherwood Class. We have been busy reading Stig of the Dump in English and completing lots of different activities based upon the book. Our number ninjas have been working incredibly hard to sharpen their skills. After a fantastic period of consolidating our knowledge of place value, we have confidently stepped up to tackle addition and subtraction. Our young scientists have been exploring living things and their environments, transforming the classroom into a hands-on laboratory of investigation and creative thinking. Pathway to Adulthood has involved looking at voting including a mock vote, voting for one of the five main political parties. In Culture Studies, our community champions have been exploring how people collaborate to complete community projects and what we can do to improve our local area whilst in Beyond Bennerley we have been exploring hobbies and visiting local area. In PSHE and RSE we have been exploring relationships. Sherwood have also been looking ahead to the world of work, thinking about the skills needed for future job roles. Finally in PE we have been developing our basketball skills. All in all, it has been a super term, and we are looking forward to learning more during Autumn 2.
