In Sherwood Class, we aim to equip pupils with the essential skills they need to become independent learners and to develop the confidence and abilities required for a successful transition into their next educational setting and beyond. 

We deliver an engaging, broad, and balanced curriculum that prepares pupils for post-16 education and supports them as they move towards adulthood. Our curriculum encourages pupils to become well-rounded young adults who are ready to access further education, live healthy and fulfilling lives, become responsible citizens, and make a positive contribution to their communities. 

Core Subjects - We teach Functional Skills in English and Mathematics, enabling pupils to develop practical literacy and numeracy skills that can be applied confidently in everyday situations. Learning is designed to be meaningful, relevant, and accessible, supporting pupils to achieve greater independence. 

Pathway to Adulthood - Our Pathway to Adulthood curriculum is delivered through the AQA Unit Award Scheme and combines key aspects of personal development, independence, and practical life skills to prepare pupils for adulthood. Delivered on a two-year cycle, the programme enables pupils to revisit and build upon essential knowledge and skills, supporting them to become confident, independent young adults. Key areas of learning include finance and banking, democracy and citizenship, enterprise, meal preparation, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), ensuring pupils develop the practical skills and understanding needed for everyday life and future success. 

Culture Studies - The Culture Studies curriculum is also linked to the AQA Unit Award Scheme. It broadens pupils' cultural understanding through an integrated programme of Humanities, Art, Drama, and Forest School activities, providing opportunities to explore creativity, history, the wider world, and the natural environment. 

Science - Our Science curriculum follows the AQA Unit Award Scheme. Pupils study a range of units across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics while developing essential scientific enquiry skills, including observing, measuring, predicting, communicating, classifying, and drawing conclusions from evidence. 

Careers Education - Pupils receive weekly careers lessons. These sessions are structured around the Gatsby Benchmarks and provide guidance on post-16 education, training opportunities, and future career pathways, helping pupils make informed decisions about their next steps.
