Meet the fantastic 3F, a group of ten young people in KS3; a brilliant blend of year 7, 8 and 9 students who are supported in class by Fiona, Christine, Jacob and Wendy. In 3F we offer our students an age appropriate programme of learning that reflects and respects the individual needs of our pupils. Each of our pupils works on targets which support their individual needs. We work closely with families and therapists to set targets that are appropriate to each individual student, including speech, language and communication targets and those our parents and carers have told us is important to them.
In Key Stage 3, we follow a topic-based approach to the National Curriculum, giving our learners age appropriate opportunities to study individual subjects at their developmental level using a variety of teaching strategies. We encourage learning through allowing them to experience the world around them through a multi-sensory approach, whilst developing core literacy, numeracy and other key skills across the curriculum. A key area of learning in KS3 is the independence and personal development delivered through our core PSHE programme. We focus on developing awareness of personal safety and wellbeing, health and hygiene, personal care skills, as well as encouraging all round independence skills during lesson time.
Wednesdays are our curriculum enrichment days and this is when we get the chance to take our learning out of the classroom and try outdoor activities like bushcraft, rock climbing, canoeing and caving. We learn how to cook healthy meals and develop our fitness at the local sports hall, as well as practising coding and programming in IT based projects. When we take part in these activities, we develop resilience, build self-confidence and learn to work as a team to meet challenges.
